Basic First Aid

This class provides the knowledge needed to help you respond to most medical emergencies for adults, including cardiac arrest and choking as well as sudden injuries and illnesses.  This program conforms to the ARC Guidelines Update for First Aid.

Course Topics Include

  • Recognizing an emergency

  • Legal considerations

  • Choking

  • Emergency moves

  • Primary Assessment – Unresponsive and responsive persons

  • Control of bleeding

  • Shock

  • Head, neck or back injury

  • Burns

  • Poisoning

Recommended Attire 

We recommend that you wear comfortable, athletic clothing. When training with tourniquets in courses including bleeding control training (i.e. First Aid, Stop Life Threatening Bleeding, Wilderness First Aid, AVERT), be aware that the velcro on tourniquets can ruin fabric that it touches.  (See Recommended Gear.)
